123inkjets’ Commitment to the Environment
123InkJets is a leading manufacturer of ink and toner cartridges, but our responsibility extends beyond providing high-quality products to our customers. We are also committed to reducing our impact on the environment throughout every step of our process, from manufacturing to shipping. Every effort we take to reduce waste, energy, pollution, and the use of non-renewable resources is a step in the direction of a healthier planet. Our obligation to our customers to provide exceptional products is equaled only by our obligation to the health and well-being of the environment.
Ink & Toner Cartridges and the Environment
How long did it take you to read the paragraph above? 15 seconds? 20? In that time, between 195 and 260 ink cartridges were discarded in the United States. If 90 percent of these cartridges are recyclable, then between 175.5 and 234 can be saved from the landfill. On average, only twenty percent of ink and toner cartridges are recycled. This means that only 35 to 47 of the cartridges from our example would be recycled. That is in less than one minute. Over the course of a year, we throw away more than 300 million printer cartridges. The plastic and metal that is used to construct the cartridges do not degrade, and harmful chemicals can leach into the soil. In addition, 2 ounces of oil is used for each cartridge; we are throwing away 4.7 million gallons of oil per year.
Our Solution
Recycling ink and toner cartridges has an immediate and significant impact on the environment, as do other environmentally-friendly steps that 123InkJets is taking.
Some Steps We’ve Taken:
Our Facilities. We have replaced all of the lights in our call center and warehouse with energy efficient fixtures and ballasts, reducing energy consumption by 30%. Our 20 year old air conditioning system was also replaced with advanced, high-efficiency units, further cutting energy use.
Packaging. Our commitment to the environment applies not only to our products, but to the materials with which they are packaged. Our packaging paper is made from 50 to 60% post-consumer industrial fiber, and every printer cartridge master carton is recycled. An onsite corrugated recycling compactor ensures more streamlined and efficient recycling. Our packaging envelopes are made from post-industrial recycled Kraft plastics.
Pre-Paid Return Labels. We strive to make recycling not only the best choice, but the easiest choice. We send pre-paid return labels with our ink and toner cartridges and encourage our customers to recycle their empties. All you have to do is put it in the mail at no charge to you.
